Summer internship (Member Communications Coordinator Intern)

Job Title:  Member Communications Coordinator Intern (3 months maternity leave cover) 
Location: AIA Office – 1201 Evans Ave. Ste. 107 Fort Worth TX 76104 

Hours: 20 hours a week, flexible hours, partly remote  
Duration: Late June – Late September 

Pay:  Contract Pay $15/hr 
Reports To: Executive Director, AIA Fort Worth Chapter 

 

About AIA Fort Worth: 

AIA Fort Worth, a Chapter of The American Institute of Architects (AIA), is a professional non-profit organization of 500 member architects from Tarrant country and surrounding areas. We provide a variety of resources, programs, and networking opportunities for architects, designers, and related professionals. As a regional chapter of AIA, we are committed to strengthening the profession through advocacy, education, and collaboration. 

 

Position Overview: 

AIA Fort Worth is seeking a reliable and motivated intern to fill the role of Member Communications Coordinator during a 3-month maternity leave coverage from late June to late September. In this role, you will be responsible for managing and executing a variety of communications tasks to keep members engaged and informed. This position offers an excellent opportunity to gain experience in nonprofit communications, event coordination, and membership engagement. 

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Weekly Newsletter Creation & Distribution: Update and send a newsletter to members and general contacts on a weekly basis, including event updates and relevant announcements as needed (Mailchimp)  

  • Website Maintenance: Update the chapter’s website as needed with event information, and other announcements to keep members informed (Squarespace)  

  • Event Registration & Promotion: Create and manage event registration pages (eventbrite) and promote events through email campaigns and social media channels  

  • Social Media Management: Assist in creating engaging social media posts to promote events, member news, and relevant industry content (e.g., Facebook, LinkedIn, Instagram via Later and Canva) 

  • Events: Attend AIA Fort Worth community events to assist with set up and clean up, take photos, etc. As schedule allows 

  • Administrative Support: 

  • Coordinate calendar invites and zoom meetings 

  • Reserve conference rooms and assist with event logistics. 

  • Attend committee meetings and take meeting notes as needed. 

  • Handle general email correspondence and provide support to the Executive Director and committee members as necessary. 

Who We’re Looking For: 

  • Education & Experience:  Ideal candidate is currently enrolled in or recently graduated from a degree program in Architecture or Design. Previous internship or volunteer experience in communications or event coordination is a plus. 

  • Skills & Qualifications: 

  • Strong writing and editing skills with a keen eye for detail. 

  • Familiarity with social media platforms (LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram, etc.) and graphic creation tools (Canva) 

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and familiarity with website content management systems (Squarespace). 

  • Basic knowledge of email marketing platforms (Mailchimp) is a plus. 

  • Ability to multitask, prioritize, and communicate effectively 

  • Personal Attributes: 

  • Proactive, reliable, and able to work independently with minimal supervision. 

  • Excellent communication skills and a professional demeanor. 

  • Enthusiastic about supporting a nonprofit organization and contributing to its mission. 

  • Other Requirements: 

  • Job will require use of a personal laptop and phone, and reliable mode of transportation for commuting to the office and attending meetings/events.
