2015 Design Awards Juror - Emily Little, FAIA

EmilyLittle headshot_6.15Emily Little, FAIA- Emily has provided leadership in the preservation and design community in her native Austin for over thirty years. With an emphasis on the adaptive reuse of historic structures, her work has indelibly colored the fabric of central Texas. Elected a Fellow in the American Institute of Architects in 2009, Emily has also led award-winning community based art projects that have garnered national attention.A cultural anthropologist at heart, she as built her career on making good design accessible and attainable, often by finding the small gestures that largely improve the quality of a space.Little's commitment to community, personally and through her architectural practice, both reflects and has helped shape the character of Central Texas. Her impulse to preserve as well as to add to the built environment has placed her in the forefront of the community's resolve to maintain identity while meeting the challenges of rapid growth and expanding technologies.Little approaches landmark buildings with a restraint that testifies to her affection for early Texas Architecture's simple lines, while not shying away from bold statements that animate rather that detract from the history of place. Roughly a quarter of her practice is as preservation consultant to peers who hold her expertise in high regard. Emily Little, FAIA is a juror for this year’s AIA FW Design Awards.
