Call for Adjunct Professors
The School of Architecture in the College of Architecture, Planning and Public Affairs (CAPPA) at the University of Texas at Arlington (UTA) invites applications for part-time adjunct faculty positions to teach design studio.
As the only accredited architecture program in North Texas and one of the largest in the country, the School of Architecture at UTA bears a unique responsibility and an extraordinary opportunity. The responsibility of providing an outstanding education in architectural design to a diverse student body, the majority of whom come from historically marginalized communities, and the opportunity to yield a decisive influence over the built environments and cultures of the Dallas-Fort Worth region, one of the fastest-growing metropolises in the US.
The School of Architecture offers professional Master of Architecture (MArch), a Bachelor of Science in Architecture (BS Arch), and accredited Bachelor of Science in Interior Design (BSID) degrees. The school is proud of its’ strong relationship with the extensive DFW design community and is committed to expanding its network of engaged professionals, practitioners, and educators.
Design Studio Instruction
Design studios at UTA serve as the pedagogical core of the architecture program, providing an integrative space where conceptual thinking, technical knowledge, and historical precedent converge. As the primary setting for architectural investigation and synthesis, the studio functions as the means through which students engage spatial, social, environmental, and material questions while simultaneously incorporating principles of building science, structures, environmental systems, history and theory into design practice.
Adjunct faculty teach undergraduate and/or graduate design studios within a collaborative, studio-based learning environment. Faculty guide students through the development of design work, supporting critical thinking, technical exploration, and iterative making in alignment with each course’s learning objectives and curricular framework. Studio sections are coordinated across course levels to unify student skill sets while fostering collegiality and peer mentorship among faculty.
In addition to studio teaching, adjunct faculty contribute to the broader culture of the school through participation in monthly faculty meetings, midterm and final reviews, and other activities that may support student learning and collegial engagement.
