CANstruction

SEPTEMBER/OCTOBER

Committee Chair: Matt Hair, AIA

CANstruction®, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization sponsored by the design and construction industry, is a design/build competition currently held in cities throughout North America. Teams of architects, engineers, and students compete to design and build giant structures made entirely from full cans of food.

The results are displayed to the public as magnificent sculpture exhibits at Northeast Mall in Hurst for 2 weeks.  At the close of the exhibitions all the canned food used in the structures is donated to the Tarrant Area Food Bank for distribution to emergency feeding programs that include pantries, soup kitchens, elderly homes, and day care centers. Since its inception in 1997, over ten million pounds of food has been donated to aid in the fight against hunger. The Fort Worth Competition has been able to donate 1 million pounds since its founding in 1999!
