“Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it,” wrote George Santayana. This tour invites you to confront that truth firsthand.
We guide you through and around a building that once served as a Ku Klux Klan auditorium—an imposing structure whose scale cannot be fully understood from the street. Only when you step inside, stand on the stage that once entertained nearly 4,000 Klan members, and take in the vastness of the space do you begin to grasp the magnitude of influence this organization once wielded.
This is history experienced in real time. As we move through the hallways of this remarkable building, we trace its many chapters—examining not only its origins, but the evolving roles it has played in the community. Along the way, we engage in thoughtful discussion about race relations, collective memory, and the building’s future possibilities.
The Heart Hat Tour offers an opportunity to reflect, learn, and consider how understanding the past can help shape a more just and informed future.
**The building is currently in the pre construction phase. In preparation for your tour, please review and sign this liability waiver >> [Linked Here]
Just a few tips:
For your safety, we recommend that all guests wear safety shoes, steel toe shoes or steel toe boots. Sandals and open toe shoes are not permitted. Upon arrival, you will be provided with additional Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
Dress in lightweight clothing as there is no A/C and wear sun protection.
We encourage you to bring your refillable water bottle.
We have included alternate directions in the attached Know Before You Go because there are many street closures around the center and GPS usually directs you to the wrong side of the building. We will meet you at the parking lot on the south side of the building.
Please take a moment to review the Know Before You Go and take the pre-tour survey.
