Gentrification in Fort Worth: Addressing the affordable housing crisis

Gentrification in Fort Worth: Addressing the affordable housing crisis

Wednesday, December 6 · 7:30am - 9am
Texas Wesleyan University Nick and Lou Martin University Center (2nd Floor) 3165 E. Rosedale Street Fort Worth, TX 76105

Across Tarrant County, rents are rising. Neighborhoods are changing. Our cities are adding jobs faster than they are building housing. As higher-income residents move in, vulnerable residents are pushed out, resulting in an increase in homelessness and evictions. As our region continues to grow, how can leaders tackle affordable housing needs and limit the displacement of residents?

The moderator for this challenging conversation is Dennis Chiessa, a professor of architecture at the University of Texas at Arlington. Panelists include:

  • Mike Brennan, President of Near Southside Inc.

  • Joel Burns, former Fort Worth City Council member

  • Shawn Lassiter, executive director of BRAVE/R Together

  • Stacy Marshall, President and CEO of Southeast Fort Worth Inc.
